Symmo pips SuperMac in golf shootout
Some of the best sportsmen around were beaten in a fun chipping competition from the roof of the fabulous Sam Lameer clubhouse by... a 10-year-old boy!
Sporting legends Pat Symcox and Mark McNulty faced off in a chip and giggle shootout from the roof of the San Lameer clubhouse after an Ernie Els for Autism charity golf day last Thursday.
No doubt Symmo’s many friends will never hear the end of it as the former Protea cricketer beat ‘SuperMac’ who is arguably one of the finest golfers Zimbabwe has ever produced. Both now live on the South Coast, Mark at San Lameer.
It must be noted that Symmo is regarded as one of the luckier sportsmen around. Cricket fans will remember a game many years ago between the Proteas and Pakistan.
Symmo was facing with Gary Kirsten at the other end in a crucial late innings’ stand.

He missed a leg spinner from Mushtaq Ahmed, which should have sent the bails flying in all directions.
In what must have been something like a one-in-a-million chance, the ball slipped through middle and off stump leaving the bails intact. Pat and Gary batted on to claim a famous victory.
Back to San Lameeer, the two were also up against Margate professional Andrew Curlewis, world renowned big hitter Adriaan van Rensburg, resident club professional Meyer du Toit and KZN amateur golf captain, Southbroom’s Gavin Sole.
And the overall winner was Juan le Roux… a 10-year-old holidaymaker from Pretoria!
In spite of gale force winds, it was a fine day and a staggering R250 000 was collected for a very special cause.
