Southbroom golfing ‘gals’ go on safari
It's a very festive time of year for the club.
JANET Humphrey, Sandy Luus and Tammy Murphy won the women’s alliance last Wednesday with 87 points.
In the men’s section line honours went to Roy Deakins, Roger Hissey, Graham Sole and John Whitnall on 95 points, counting out Jannie Ackermann, Russell Mackenzie, Malcolm Greenland and Colin Mckay.
They were followed by Derrik and Bruce Matthew, Kevin Daly and Andy Bladen in third with 94.
On Thursday, the women enjoyed a fabulous themed Christmas party after playing a fun (somewhat testing) 9-hole alliance, on a ‘temporary’ layout, carefully created by club professional, Derek James. There were many Merle Streep ‘look-alikes’ in the safari-themed event, but not a Robert Redford to be seen..
The fun alliance was won on 63 points by Lan Yeadon, Maeve Mullane, Anne Faber and ‘Casper’, one shot ahead of Candida Amm, Jenny Westray, Lyn Doveton and Jackie van Eeden.
Friday’s Open Day alliance was won by Pat Mavundla, Sbu Ntozakhe, Wesley McNeil and Cyprian Xolo on 95 points. Norman Farrell, Don Osbourn, John Fox and Greg Hornby were second on 94 followed by Rodney Lowe, James Fergus, Karl Beck and Jan Kleinhans in third with 92.
Jeanette Peyios and Sandy Luus combined to win Saturday’s betterball Stableford competition on 45 points. Janet Humphrey and Jean Corfe were second after carding 43 points, followed by Biffy Dunn and Michelle Davies in third with 38.
Chris Visser and Graham Volck teamed up to win the men’s competition with 48 points in a count out from John Lison and Piet Joubert. Malcolm Greenland and Ross Mckay were third with 47 points on a count out from Roy Huddy and Peter Volck.
The annual Spooner Rose Bowl, a mixed greensomes medal competition was played on Sunday. Jean Corfe and George Haswell won this very popular trophy event scoring 63.6 nett. Meryl Chambers and Nick Riemer were second with 64 nett followed by Allyson and Bob Thomas on 68.6 nett.
