Beach tennis hits the sweet spot
Beachgoers were given an introduction to the game.
Tennis South Africa launched beach tennis at various South Coast beaches during December. Beachgoers were given an introduction to the game with workshops from national tennis pros like Natalie Grandin. The Herald caught up with some of the tennis players at Ramsgate beach last Wednesday.

Gauteng visitor Nolan Naransamy said that he always enjoys playing tennis on the courts. “I was invited to play the new trend sport beach tennis for the first time with some of my friends and I loved it from the first touch. The sport is based on tennis rules, but the movements and atmosphere are more like beach volleyball,” explained Mr Naransamy.
He added that receiving a lesson from retired professional tennis player Natalie Grandin from South Africa was an added bonus.
As a matter of interest, Natalie has achieved a career-high singles ranking of number 144 as of September 12, 2005 and a career-high doubles ranking of number 22 as of May 14, 2012.
She has won one Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles title, three International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s Circuit singles titles and 25 doubles titles.
She retired from tennis in January 2015.
