Herald Fishing: Variety of fish being caught
Reports are that bronze bream caught all along the coast are feeding mainly on prawn bait.
THE rock and surf scene has been flooded with two species of late – diamond rays and shad. Fishermen after the edibles have obviously been nabbing the shad along the entire coast, which have been bigger fish ranging from 2 to 6kg, while the diamonds that are being landed are between 20 and 100kg.

The season is very late for bronze bream, so if you are wanting to get a last fish for the season, reports are that bronze bream caught all along the coast are feeding mainly on prawn bait.
Some decent rock cod have been caught while fishing for bream in the Shelly Beach area and anglers are still getting some decent kob on the Sandspit in Port Shepstone. Dorado have started to come on to the bite in the last week.
Chokka is still your best choice for bait for bottom fishing, as it stands up to the peckers, while pilchards give off the best smell for larger fish, but they are more sensitive to peckers. Wahoo have still been around and anglers fishing at Aliwal and Shelly Beach have managed to bag a few.
In terms of game fish, the south has been producing some lovely tuna for guys trolling.
Fishing tip: Tackle preparation will save you money and frustration in the long run. If you haven’t seen your backing in a while, now is the time to make sure it is still okay. Many large fish have been hooked in the past week. Some have been unstoppable so make sure you double check your knots and that you and your tackle are up to scratch.
