Herald Fishing: Shad fishing ‘slow’ but inedible chasers on the go
There have been some interesting catches from far and wide.
As we move further in to summer, the fishing continues to pick up. This has been the case for the inedible chasers as well as the guys looking for the summer game fish.
Reports on shad are that they’re a bit slow, although anglers fishing in the Umzumbe area have been getting shad early morning and late afternoons.

Anglers are still getting a few bronze bream here and there.
Some days have been slow, but most of the reports have reflected that with the right amount of effort you should walk away having caught at least a grey shark or brown skate.
Prime locations have been the points along the coastline.
Tuna are wild off the lower coast and all the different modes of transport (ski-boat, jet ski and kayak) are making the most of the feeding frenzy.
The South Coast has seen some lovely deep sea catches.
These have comprised mainly of tuna and dorado but a few couta have made their way into the hatches.
The bottom fishing has started to slow down with catches becoming slim but the slinger, rock cod and other reds are still around.
There’s a lot of fishing coming up for KwaZulu-Natal Coastal Anglers’ Union teams.
Teams were chosen last year and feature a number of South Coast, or former South Coast fishermen.
In the U21s Byron Bennett and Juan Dixon, both from Marlin, are fishing nationals on the West Coast at the time of writing.
Joshua Pretorius (Marlin) is also there, fishing in the U16s.
When it comes to the seniors, Paul Loomes (Benders) is the captain, and the team includes Louis Allison and Lloyd Laxton, both Leviathan.
Their nationals is in Eastern Province from February 26 to March 2.
In the Seniors B, Ockert Schonken (Glenmore), will be in action in Border from February 12 to 16.
Women are well represented, with Illiana Bennett (Glenmore) the captain, along with Lize Arlow, Catharina Nel and Kris Scott, all Marlin.
Their nationals is in Southern Cape from February 12 to 16.
