Michael Downs has had a pretty good time of things at Margate Country Club of late.
He won last Thursday’s competition with his namesake Mike Lee on 45 points, on a count out from Gary Smith and Colin Iddon, as well as Joe Espach and Johan Erasmus.

Nearest the pins were Ulric Gouws (2nd) and Johan Erasmus (11th).
While all this was going on, Ivan Curlewis brushed aside Ronnie Mtshaka’s challenge in the matchplay knockout final, winning 5/4.
Last Saturday’s combined Stableford was won by Michael Downs and Thys Bothma on 78 points, counting out Peter and Jane Davies.
In third place on 77 points were Flip Fourie and Fanie Terblanche. Joe Espach had a hole-in-one on the 11th.
Robert Mavundla had both nearest the pins, on the 4th and 16th.
Mystery jackpot (all par 3s) went to Joe Espach and Adriaan Lemmer.
In the women’s section, the winners were Hannetjie Pretorius, Joan Minnaar and Hilary Hendry on 88 points.
Seven adrift were Sandi Johnston, Lizzie Meyer and Rina Rito.
The women’s competition last Tuesday was won on +3 by Una McLachlan, followed by Sandi Johnston on +1 and then Connie McArthur on 0.
The Wobblers’ alliance was won by Dolf Willemse, Wayne Minnaar and Dave Boyd on 85 points.
Tied for second on 84 points were Peter Hunter, Alan Robinson and Otto Mutschler, as well as Rob Brien, Hans Dallinger and Dave Morrison.
Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Frank Merrill, Derek Egerton and Jan Richter on 67 points.
