Herald Fishing: Summer fight for local fishermen
The hot weather has brought with it some interesting fishing.
Summer is here with some force. The north-easterly winds are blowing and the heat is oppressive at times.
The summer fish – both the game fish and the back-breaking non-edibles – have come to play.
With big seas on the horizon and pumping winds pushing through the week, it should be an interesting time.

It is time to have a look at the freshwater report and get some fishing done on the ‘dark side’.
With the bass feeding as ferociously as they are, try your hand at it and spend a day with the family at one of the many freshwater venues in the region.
This past week has been extremely successful for the bass fishermen as a lot of bass have been caught.
The bronze bream are all but gone and reports are in of only a few are still coming out on the lower section of the coast.
However, the non-edible anglers are also getting a share of the prize.
Various points from Stiebel Rocks in Umzumbe down to Port Edward, have been doing well with a lot of houndsharks, grey sharks and rays that have been caught in the evenings.
Houndsharks give you a good tussle so maybe go out in the evenings and ‘put a bait’.
They usually bite on mackerel, red eye and chokka.
