Raja Kazi too classy for the Saints

The team has only lost one game this season.

Raja Kazi played a starring role in Southern KwaZulu-Natal cricket team’s emphatic 140 run win over Silver Saints at Penguin Park last week Sunday.

It was the second game of the return fixtures in the Level Two Challenge.

Southerns won the toss and opted to bat first. They totalled 255 all out in 46 overs.

The start wasn’t great, with last week’s centurion Morné Bishop falling for 18, Ali Iftikar making 14, Sachin Kalkapersad 16 and Gareth Bishop 17.

When Matt Redinger, dropped down from opener to five, was out for seven the total was 99 for 5.

But Kazi and Zeyn Moosa changed that putting on a partnership of 45 before Moosa was out for 29.

Altaaf Hussain was out cheaply for seven with the total on 160.

Thereafter the tail wagged in some fashion, with Yusuf Moosa, better known for his skiddy-quick bowling, clattering a quick 48.

He ended up making 48, with Kazi out on 71.

Preshen Chand was the third player to get out for seven, leaving Sahal Mansur not out on nought.

In reply, Silver Saints could only scrape together 115 all out in 23.1 overs.

Redinger, Kazi and Mansur did the bulk of the bowling, finishing with figures of 2-40, 3-11 and 1-29 respectively.

Gareth Bishop, who kept wicket, shed the gloves for two overs and nipped out three batsmen for only four runs in just two overs.

In between all this, Hussain had one over but he picked up some ‘air miles’ as it went for 17 runs.

The game against Hillary Malvern at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday was rained out.
