Crossfit: Building physical and emotional strength

Forty teams came from around the province to compete.

CROSSFIT Wild Coast, based in Manaba, hosted another of its popular Summer Slam Showdown events last week Saturday.

It was an individual men’s and women’s competition with 40 teams coming from around the province to compete.

CrossFit combined power lifting, weight lifting, sprinting and gymnastics, to name a few, and it is this variety that drew so many athletes to the event.

CrossFit Wild Coast coach and owner Mitchell Anderson said that this had been the gym’s biggest competition yet.

“These are events where athletes need to commit and then think. Sometimes the hardcore images of athletes moaning in pain or struggling to complete their challenge put people off. However, this did not deter them from what was actually a very accessible and highly enjoyable event aimed at everyone,” explained Mitchell.

He added that CrossFit’s goal was to empower the community to be more active by offering safe, creative and fun physical challenges.

“We strive to build the physical and emotional strength to overcome any challenge by teaching natural and functional movements on progressive and evolving obstacles that excite and motivate.”
