Alan Davies triumphs in brotherly battle at Margate CC
Some of the 'big guns' were away for the weekend.
There was a family feud for top place in the B division of the monthly mug at Margate Country Club last Saturday, with Alan Davies winning on nett 68, counting out his brother Eddie.
The Captain’s Putter prize, for all monthly medal winners throughout 2017, was also part of competition. It was won by Alan, so a good day for him all round.
Sydney Shingange won the A division on nett 74. He also finished last (!) as he was the only entry.
Some of the top players, like Robert Mavundla, Ronnie Mtshaka and Sbu Ntozakhe went to Kokstad to play in the East Griqualand Open.
Others like Elvis Khawula and Doug Sima opted to take a rest day.
In the C division, John Ford won on 38 points, edging out Keith Duncalf, who had 37 points.
Nearest the pins were Peter McCarthy (4th) and Gert Andersson (11th).
In the women’s section, Jean Page won on nett 67, three ahead of Evelyn Burls. In third was Lizzie Meyer on nett 76.
The women’s competition last Tuesday saw Wondra Bothma, Jean Page and Beryl Williamson win on 77 points.
One point adrift were Maureen Ogilvie, Una McLachlan and Margaret Taylor.
The Wednesday Wobblers’ game was won by Otto Mutschler, Dolf Willemse and Wayne Minnaar on 88 points.
Runners-up were Dave Parsons, Piet Pretorius and Hanz Beilhartz on 87 points.
Third spot went to Eddie Gommersall, Johan Holshof and Peter Hunter on 85 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Roy Nolan, Nico van Vuuren and Rob Brien on 71 points.

Last Thursday’s individual Stableford was won on 42 points by Carlos Periera, by two from Alan Davies on 40 points.
The business day alliance last Friday, with two scores to count, was won on 91 points by Zanru Coetzee, Jaco van der Wal, Johan Neethling and Alec Neethling.
In second place on 88 points were Wimpie Jordaan, Brian Jeffreys, Dave Morrison and Hans Beilhartz, followed by Rob Brien, Thys Bothma, Richard Plaskitt and Derek Egerton on 87 points.
Nearest the pins were Roy Watkins (7th for two) and Dave Morrison (16th).
