The Valentine’s Golf Day, hosted by the club’s women members, was very well supported. Thank you to all our visitors, sponsors and members, for joining us in the fourball waltzing alliance. The prizes paid out to 10th place, so the chances of scooping ‘something’ for your efforts, was pretty good!

The winning team comprised Tom Naicker, Dean Naicker, Raj Rampathy and Teddy Reddy, on a count-out from Eric Morsner, Neil de Villiers, Wally Kent and a ‘ghost’, both teams on a score of 89 points. Taking third place were Denise Nell, Jacques Kirstein, Bing Opie and guest, Nigel Henson, with 88 points.

Celebrating St Valentine’s Day: Enjoying a super fun day at Umkomaas Golf Club’s fourball alliance competition last Saturday, are (from left) Bing Opie, Nigel Henson, Denise Nell and Jacques Kirstein with their chosen prizes for third place.

Jacques Hulley was the ‘master’ of the short game, bagging two nearest-the-pins on the ninth and 13th holes plus a two-club on the 13th. The other nearest-the-pin prizes went to Clyde Leisegang on the fourth and Susi Suhonen on the 17th. Devlyn Fraser also had a two-club on the 13th.

Our Allerton boys played at Umkomaas last Sunday and, after the debacle of the week before, totally annihilated the team from Central Durban 9½ to 2½, in what can only be called a major ‘come-back’ for the boys. Well done to you all, your captain is so very proud of you – may your excellent form continue for the rest of the year!

This Saturday’s competition will be an individual Stableford, not a usual competition for a Saturday but a challenge nonetheless.

The Sunday ‘bash’ will be held on Sunday, February 18, starting at around 10am under the ‘lapa’ for registration. Green fees are R60 for all plus R100 comp fee, which is paid out cash in prizes.

Social golf will played be during the morning – call the Club at 039-9731042 – please be patient as the landline phone is very unreliable at the moment but you may call Sonny at 083-3560639 if you cannot get through to the club phone.
