Umkomaas BC bowlers loved their ‘day of love’
Remember the men's 2-4-2 to be held tomorrow (Thursday) and the women’s 2-4-2 next Tuesday.
SAINT Valentine’s Day, last Wednesday, was most enjoyable. Bowlers arrived wearing the obligatory red and white, but also came bearing platters of delicious eats for a bring and share lunch.
The tabs-in provided an interesting draw; two rinks had a woman with the rest of the players men and one had our president, Bob Craven, on a rink with women. At tea time, fresh cream buns appeared on the tables and these were speedily devoured.
An unexpected sponsorship of Spur vouchers made the morning’s play that much more competitive and the eventual winners were Lada Cizec, Dick Henman and Rina Gradidge, with Bob Craven, Jen Naude and Anne Williamson as runners-up.

While the players quenched their thirst at the pub, the final touches were completed on the food plates and a fabulous assortment of eats provided us with a delicious lunch. Thank you to all who helped make this a special day.
There is much excitement about our ‘new’ fund-raising board. Although this concept is already in other clubs, we now also have a ‘Find the Joker’ card game.
It was introduced only two weeks ago, but we already have a jackpot of over R500 and the members are becoming more and more eager to win.
The trips competition on Thursday was won by Lada and Dagmara Cizec and Avril Smith and they were delighted with their petrol vouchers from Halfway Malanda. Taking the second prize of Spar vouchers were Eddie and Lulu Bingham and Silveigh Ananidas.
The ‘woods’ competition is now nearing its completion and we have had some really super bowls played.
The semi-finals between Mandy Schaaij and Avril Smith on one rink and Bob Craven and Kenneth Smith on the other are sure to provide more great spectator entertainment.
