‘Nipping’ it up at lifesaving champs
The team did phenomenally well, placing fifth overall and topping the coastal teams.
AT the KZN Surf Lifesaving Nipper Championships held at Addington Beach, Durban, recently, Scottburgh Nippers showed that the South Coast is still a force to be reckoned with in surf lifesaving.
Taking on giants like Durban Surf (76 competitors) and Umhlanga Rocks (81 competitors), Scottburgh was the smallest team (25 competitors) to take part in the event, but managed to walk away with a disproportionate number of awards including a few sought-after top honours.
The team did phenomenally well, placing fifth overall and topping the coastal teams.
Some of our stars achieved excellent results: Emily Simpkins (three gold, one bronze), Abby Jones (one bronze), Rory Stanton (two gold, three silver), Tyne van Achterberg (one gold, two silver, one bronze), Grace Daley (two gold, two bronze), Nathan Jones (one bronze), Amber Edwards (one gold, one bronze), Christina Stanton (two gold) and Caleb Daley (two gold, one silver, two bronze).

In the relay events a silver was won by the team of Rory Stanton, Luke Bremner and Blake Gardner. A gold was won by the team of Rory Stanton, Luke Bremner and Emily Stanton. And a further gold was won by team of Caleb Daley, Christina Stanton, Amber Edwards and Jethro Alexandre.
To top off a great prize-giving, three of our competitors were awarded the much sought-after “Competitor of the Championships” awards: Emily Simpkins in the U9 category, Rory Stanton in the U10 category and Caleb Daley in the U14 category.
Well done Scottburgh. You make us very proud!
The team will now be heading to Port Elizabeth in April to compete in the annual SA Nipper Champs. We wish them all the best. We know you will fly the Scottburgh flag with pride.
