Happy reunion at Scottburgh Golf Club midweek game

WE welcomed back a few old friends on Wednesday after the game. Colin Moodie popped in for a tipple after his long layoff, the bar profits should now pick up. Along with Colin were Robbie Dunbar down in Scotties for a few days and Reg Daniel rolled in with grandson, Lee, for a welcome drink. Nice to see them all together again.

Brian Richards was moaning about the handicap computer having stolen four shots from him this month. There’s no wonder as he and partner Graham Brown walked away with it on Wedneday with 47 points to claim first place. Six points behind were Francois Rosseau and Julien le Pront (making a rare visit) on 41. Claiming last place were Linda Hall and Janet Beckerly on 39.

The hidden holes were not claimed and neither were the two-clubs. Dave Sirey – a usual winner – went the other way. along with Hans Beuthe and paid the R10 fine.

Mick Marriot has had son Mark out from Australia for a few days while he was here on business. He showed him how good his golf was by winning the chicken run on Friday.

The women played a three-ball alliance on Saturday with Debbie du Toit, Janet Beckerly and Linda Els scoring 69 to take the honours. Second on 61 were Margaret Coates, Esme Hadley and Lady Captain Mandy Jones.

P&G were the sponsors for the men’s Saturday betterball Stableford and the prizes were pretty good. Taking the whisky (and the biscuit) were Brian (the moaner) Richards and his partner Graham Brown who once again – despite all the machinations of the computer – crept in with 45 points.

Barry Kisten and John Mills were just a point behind on 44 to claim the Merlot, while Anton Visagé and Quinton Richardson took the Chardonnay with 41 points.

Bottles of Merlot for nearest-the-pins went to Francois Rosseau (second), captain Shaun Jenkins (fifth), Barry Kisten (10th) and Quinton Richardson (17th). Graham Brown donated his winnings for finding the hidden holes and Herman Grotius did likewise with his two-club.

The captain, apart from his nearest the pin, had a bad day as he and partner Keith Love picked up the Stone. However, they were not alone as Mark Marriot took home a souvenier of his visit by testing the weight of the Stone along with pal Gareth Jones.
