From the bowling greens: Gripping final enthrals spectators

News and results from South Coast bowling clubs.

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

The mixed pairs final last weekend was truly one of the best finals seen for a long time with outstanding bowls played on both sides by Riverside’s Ron Weddell, playing as reserve for Shane Nienber, and Maureen Muller against Wayne and Gail van Nikkelen Kuyper from Hibberdene.

Ron and Maureen were the eventual winners but well-deserved congratulations to all four players.

In joint third were Barbara Brook and Pat McGlynn from Margate and Tony Waters and Julie Walker from Southbroom.

Thanks to the clubs that hosted the round robins and special thanks to The Bell for their hospitality over all three days. Special thanks to the enthusiastic supporters that make such a difference.

The KBA executive wishes all inter-district squads the very best of luck and good bowls for the tournament next week.

The open women are playing in Oudtshoorn and the men in George. The seniors are playing in Port Natal and the Bs in Johannesburg, so please all travel safely.

BANNERS REST

Winners of the Golden Moon and 19th Hole mixed pairs were Andreas van der Linde and Amy Körner, with runners-up Hazel Delaney and Ally Weir.

The Golden Moon Spur mixed 2-4-2 played last Wednesday was won by John Keppler and Leoni Booth.

The Tops Port Edward men’s pairs played last Sunday was won by Steve Rennie and Andreas van der Linde, with Rod Phelps and Ron Camps placed second.

SuperSpar Port Edward 2-bowl mixed trips on March 14, and the GP Security mixed pairs on March 15.

HIBBERDENE

The Tiago’s competition was won by Bez Bezuidenhout, Fran Raymond and Cheryl Knight.

Second prize to Alex Beukes and Alida Munnik.

Session prize went to Jan Venter, Judy Aiston and Bill Enkerwitz.

MARGATE BC

The men’s Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach winners were Dave Hume and John Keppler.

Runners-up were Ken Tonge and Gordon Ogilivie.

Quiz evening is on March 21. Cost is R60pp including dinner.

Social bowls every Sunday morning at 9am.

MARGATE CC

The Hair Shoppe women’s fours was won by Pam Cole-Cook, Vi Pels and Sandy van Niekerk.

Runners-up were Franci Philpott, Trixi Smith, Yvonne Bausek and Sandy Ferguson.

The Manaba Spar open trips was won by Brian Douthwaite and team, from Gordon Ogilvie, Gary Hess and Lucas Barnard.

Sessions to Graham and Anjie Gold and Peter McCarthy, as well as Mike Prinsloo, Sandi Johnston and Johan Cooper.

NOMADS

Next game is at the Village this Sunday (11th) at 8.30am for 9am.

All members are welcome to join in. Bring and braai after the game.

PORT EDWARD

Cowshed/Golden Moon pro-ten competition winners were Jokkie and Marianne van Buuren and Ken Simm.

Runners-up were Dave Banks, Roger Humphrey and Yvonne Fillis.

Tabs in socials this Saturday (10th) at 1.30pm, visitors welcome.

Sundowners and twilight bowling at the club at 4pm this Friday.

SOUTHBROOM

John Sutton, Betty Bolton, Ali Mitchell and Doug Kent won the Mariner’s Restaurant open fours last week.

Runners-up were Chris Green, Val Smith, Anthony Card and Denise Card.

First session went to Hein Bester, Helen Proctor, Cleve Walker and Sandy Luus.

Second session to Alfred Shusha, Eugene Yasbek, Nico Mantoan and Lorraine Wijtman.

SOUTHPORT

In-house pairs winners were Mike King and Cosmos Gumede, from Peter Anderson and Ellen Gould.

Session went to Bob Maroney and Lyn Harris.

South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 today (8th) in the morning.

Social bowls every Friday at 3pm. All beginners are welcome.

THE BELL

Harbour View SuperSpar mixed fours played last week was won by Daphne Sapsford, Barbara Gradwell, Dawie Schlebusch and Mada Lindeque.

Second place went to Tickey and Denise Nel, Brandon Michlas and Brett Pollington.

Session prize was won by Denis Graham, Tony Davies, Astrid Jackson and Derick Celliers.

TWENI

The Razzel’s mixed fours was won by Richard Dunn, Rentie Stevens and Gill Rule and Nora Swart.

Runners-up were Jane Massam, Brian Pirie and Werner Mody and Silvia Pretorius.

The session prize was won by Ollie Coetzer, Tabie Jonker, Marie Coetzer and Mada Lindeque.
