South Coast Striders take on route tester

The big race is drawing closer.

FIFTEEN South Coast Striders travelled to Pietermaritzburg last Saturday to join in on the route tester for Comrades organised by Dean Wight.

The route was from Pietermaritzburg to Hillcrest which was 56km.

For some of the Striders this was not enough so they did an additional 4km to make it a nice round 60km. It was a tough day and a bitterly cold start but well worth it.

The following day eight Striders did a 60km training run from Port Edward to Umtentweni.

So, it seems the runners are ready to take on the 90km Comrades Marathon on June 10.

Three Striders took part in the Checkout Challenge 10km which doubled as the KZN Champs.

Two of them received medals for first and second position in the 70+ age category, namely Andrew Spence (gold) and Pieter Badenhorst (silver).

Andrew clocked a time of 46:27 while Pieter was in at 54:19. Aletta Engelbrecht timed 01:32:00.
