Herald Fishing: Mixed bag for anglers
The weather and water need to become significantly colder this month if there's to be any hope of sardines coming along.
April has come and gone and the year is already picking up serious speed.
The warmer seasons are almost over and the time for the sardines is getting very close. Well, hopefully.

The rock and surf scene has seen a mixture of fishing results during the past week.
The water is still very warm along the entire coast and this has made for some poor fishing as far as the inedibles go.
Conditions have not been fantastic but there have been some flatfish, grey sharks and giant sandies coming out for the really persistent fishermen.
Mackerel and bonito have been the preferred baits and a head of one of these with cutlets on the sides has worked well.
Reports are in a of shad being caught at Umzumbe and at the Block in Port Shepstone.
Bronze bream are still on the bite.
Gusting winds are expected to hit the coast this weekend so anglers should rather sort out tackle boxes and traces over the weekend and get ready for the winter fish.
