Lewis Hamilton drove a classy race to dominate the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona last Sunday.

Teammate Valtteri Bottas made it two wins in a row for Mercedes and Max Verstappen deserved his podium spot in third place for Red Bull Renault despite him nursing a damaged car with a bloodied nose.

Although Sebastian Vettel finished fourth in his Ferrari, the Prancing Horses just couldn’t match Hamilton’s ultra-quick Merc on the day.

It was an eventful race with Romain Grosjean spinning in front of the pack after the start which caused a multiple pile up, with Grosjean, Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly all out of the race on lap one.

Ferrari tried to undercut Mercedes with an early pit stop for Vettel but it didn’t help them.

The race was interrupted by the presence of two safety car periods.

Daniel Ricciardo in the other Red Bull also drove really well all weekend and fully deserved the solid fifth position which he came home in.

It is a pity that the Renault engines are a little short on power otherwise they would be crossing swords at the top.

I expect the Red Bulls, McLarens, and the Renault factory team all to be very quick in a fortnight’s time at Monaco as lowdown power is more important than the top end, at the principality.

Kevin Magnussen was sixth after another good drive in his Haas Ferrari and another two Renault powered cars, namely Carlos Sainz, came home seventh in the works car and Fernando Alonso eighth in his McLaren.

Sergio Perez was home ninth in his Force India Mercedes and final points place went to youngster Charles Leclerc in his Sauber Alfa Romeo. Frenchman Leclerc is I believe a man to watch for the future.

In addition to what I said about Red Bull earlier Mercedes are not going to have it so easy at Monaco where I expect a tremendous challenge in qualifying from a few different cars.
