Herald on Fishing: Shad are on the bite
Live shad have been the bait of choice for these predators but remember that they have to be legal size to be used.
The weather over the past week has given most anglers chance to go and wet a line.
This has been somewhat productive as there have been a couple of reports of fish coming out, both on and off shore.

Fishing has started stabilising over the past few days as the wind has dropped, calming the sea and giving anglers a chance to fish.
Garrick have started to come on the bite.
Live shad have been the bait of choice for these predators but remember that they have to be legal size to be used.
Make use of a slide clip and either one or two 5/0 hooks, or go for plugs and drop shot.
Reports have been received of shad being caught all the way from Umzumbe down to Port Edward, with some good catches at the Block in Port Shepstone.
The week-long Senior Gamefish Nationals are currently being held at the Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club.
Ten teams have entered the competition, which started on Monday and ends tomorrow (Friday).
Anglers are battling a bit but some fish have been brought to the weigh in.
The inedible species coming out have been some late-season sandies and diamonds.
