Rademeyer leads charge as Riversmead Warriors run riot against Collegians

USUALLY when a team wins 87-0 they will leave the field somewhat satisfied.

But in the case of the Riversmead South Coast Warriors, they left kicking themselves a bit despite the massive win over PMB Collegians at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground last Saturday.

There were two reasons.

The first that was they missed nine conversions on the day, or as one five-year-old fan described them, ‘confusions’.

Why that matters is because the Warriors need to haul in log leaders Hillcrest on points difference.

They will hoping to reverse their away loss to them earlier this season when Hillcrest visit Douglas Mitchell.

Judging by the killer instinct the Warriors showed last Saturday, there’s no reason to think they can’t top the log by the end of the season.

The kicking for poles, no doubt, will come right.

Last Saturday’s match was a try fest of note, with the Warriors running in 14 tries plus a penalty try.

Four players scored twice, namely Rameez Allie, Brandt Fields, Chris Mitchell and Juan van der Berg.

Brendan Rademeyer, Jacques Coetzee, Jaco Coetzee, Cameron Camp, Johan Gericke and Marchell Sass all dotted down once.

However, it wasn’t as if Collegians rolled over. No way.

The game was physical and the chirps were flying.

Unsurprisingly, feisty scrumhalf and captain Chris Mitchell was exactly in the very centre of all this.

“I’m actually quite a nice guy,” was one of his chirps as he managed to stir up his opponents a bit more.

Up until this point he had been heavily involved in the debates over various decisions the opposition felt were a little harsh.

Overall, the discipline was good, although one of the Collegians’ players had the misfortune of receiving not one, but two yellow cards during the match.

There was one lighter moment in the match, when chasing a long kick ahead, flank Dawie Durrheim pinned his ears back and got to the ball in no time.

“I think he out-sprinted some of the backline,” was a comment from the sidelines.

“Yes, but he’s ‘finished’ now, he’ll have to be subbed,” was another chirp.

Perhaps the highlight of the match was the try scored by Jaques ‘Tjoppie’ Coetzee after the scrum smashed Collegians back over the line and ‘Tjoppie’ just fell onto the ball.

Man of the match awards went to Donovon Horne and Brendan Rademeyer.

Next game is against Ballito Dolphins at Douglas Mitchell this Saturday with kick-off at 3.30pm for the firsts.

The second team beat PMB Collegians 26-19. Man of the match awards went to Matthew Louw and Nick Potonas.

Tries were scored by Matthew Louw, Gromingo Mzunga, Jaco Coetzee and Nick Potonas. Wesley Nyman kicked three conversions.

The U20s lost to Midlands 17-10 last Friday night. Man of the match awards went to Wesley Nyman and Cameron Camp.
