No ‘parking’ off for inspirational Bartle couple

Of their 50 parkruns, 41 have been completed at Uvongo, three at Victoria Lake Gauteng, two at Umdoni, two at Boksburg and one each at Springs and Gilloolys.

PARKRUN has no age limit… and you are never too old.

Christine and William Bartle of Southport recently completed their 50th parkrun at the Uvongo parkrun, which starts and finishes at St Mike’s beach.

The couple, who have completed all 50 runs together, both turn 88 years old this year, William in July and Christine in August.

They have been married for 65 years and have proven to be an inspiration to all.

Of their 50 parkruns, 41 have been completed at Uvongo, three at Victoria Lake Gauteng, two at Umdoni, two at Boksburg and one each at Springs and Gilloolys.

Roland Bartle (their son) and Lynn du Plooy, volunteers and parkrunners at Victoria Lake in Gauteng and members of the parkrun South African tourist group, travelled to the coast to share the moment with them.

A huge helium ’50’ balloon was given to them as well as little miniature red, milestone T-shirts which were pinned to the front and back of their shirts with the words saying “We are doing our 50th parkrun today”.

It was also Uvongo parkrun’s fifth birthday, so there was cake at the finish line.
