Madlala and Allie star for rugby Warriors in Zululand
It was a hard-earned win against a notoriously tough opponent.
A WIN is a win, so the expression goes in sporting terms.
That was never more the case for the Riversmead Warriors in their Fidelity Security First Division South Section rugby league win against the Zululand Rhinos in Empangeni last Saturday.
The final score was 22-17 in what skipper Chris Mitchell described as a ‘scrappy win’.

“They ran everything at us and we made plenty handling errors. But a win is a win so I guess that’s what counts,” he said.
It is, and it keeps them in contention for league honours later in the season.
Tries were scored by flank Lunga Madlala, outside centre Rameez Allie and wing Xander Lourens.
Fly-half Brandt Fields slotted two conversions and a penalty.
Men of the match were Allie (backs) and Madlala (forwards).
The second team lost 48-41.
Tries were scored by Sam Nkwentsha (2), Christian Venter (1), Thobani Chíliza (1), Spider Ndlazi (1) and Vuyo Gushu (2).
Ndlazi kicked three conversions.
“The long trips are always a bit challenging as some key players couldn’t go due to work commitments,” said consultant coach MG Roscher.
Men of the match were Spider Ndlazi (backs) and Nhlanhla Lushaba (forwards).
The Riversmead Warriors play away again this Saturday, against Westville Old Boys.
They’re at home against Hillcrest on June 23.
