‘Stretch and screech’ at Tweni tennis club

VISITORS galore extended play to all six courts at Umtentweni Tennis Club last week Saturday.
Neil Perry, Norman Davies and Ralph Burls joined the men for some well-contested sets.
However, the foursome which had the most fun were visitors, Karen Werge and Carol Nash playing against Anne Payn and Liesl Smith on court five where it was more of a ‘stretch and screech’ than a ‘hit and giggle’.
But that’s what social tennis is all about.

It was good to have Liesl back on the courts after several health issues, as well as Swannie Swanepoel, whose work commitments often clash with tennis days.
Foxy Norton celebrated his birthday on the 9th and was lucky enough to have Mervyn Tarboton on duty supplying a variety of delicious eats – carrot cake, fruit loaf, banana bread, savoury pinwheels and Gloria’s famous chocolate cake.
Mervyn is thanked for sacrificing his own tennis to arrange the sets throughout the afternoon – not an easy task with such a crowd.
Colin Barker is the birthday boy this week and members wish him a happy day on the 18th and lots of great tennis during the coming year.
Spectators, Doug Kjonstad, Jane Werge and Lynne Rorich were treated to some good sets and members are pleased to see Lynne looking much stronger after her trip to Cape Town.
Pam and Carl Grobler are off on a trip to Italy soon and members wish them safe travelling and a great time. Ciao for now, you two!
Chairman, Dan Dimitriu, is setting a great example to the rest of us and is thanked for all the spraying he has been doing to improve the court surface.
Members are requested to consult the notice board to make sure they have paid subs according to the new fee structure and to let Isabeau le Roux have any outstanding amounts asap.
Saturday duty: June 23 – Grant Wood.
