Transit from village to valley just ‘perfect’, thanks to Halfway Ford Port Shepstone

It was an exciting time for the centre and the dealership.

Indwe Learning Centre in lower Illovo, under the leadership of Iris Canham, plays a crucial role in the education of children in the area, which is mostly rural in nature.

It’s a non-proft, pilot Montessori programme aimed at assisting rural children, especially in the early childhood development phase.

Getting the youngsters from the village to the centre in the valley has been something of a problem to date, but that’s changed, thanks to the donation of a 22-seater Ford Transit bus.

Iris took delivery of the keys from Halfway Ford Port Shepstone dealer principal Joe Bridges recently.

“George Baikie (owner) has long been involved in supporting the community and schools in particular, so this was an extension of that,” said Joe.

There was great excitement all round as a number of the smaller children came and sang songs – and explored the huge vehicle.

One of the little boys, named Perfect, was first to greet the Halfway Ford staff, with a massive toothy grin.

“The children are from the rural area of Inkwali. Even the induna in the area, Awande Gumede, is excited about the latest news. This is an absolute gift,” said Iris.
