Kart drivers turn passion into speed at Dezzi South Coast Raceway

Racing karts at a very young age is how most champions are cultivated.

Karting is the best kind of racing to turn your passion for driving into a professional career.

Just ask the several local drivers of the Dezzi Kart Club who competed in the Round 5 championships at the Dezzi South Coast Raceway last Sunday.

Many of them, who are professional drift car drivers, agree that racing karts at a very young age is how most champions are cultivated.

Sprint class first place winner, Jonathan Watson, said that even if you’re already a top drift driver, it’s likely you’ll still spend a large majority of your spare weekends tearing it up at the local kart track.

“With a good understanding of the end goal, the incredible wins can be achieved. While we’re at the track to have fun, seeing us battle against each other in what’s arguably the purest form of racing is an amazing sight to behold,” explained Mr Watson.

Sprint class: 1 Jonathan Watson; 2 Nick Frey; 3 Simon Heaver.

Club class: 1 Ken Shipley; 2 Brett Robins; 3 Trevor Puren.

Endurance class: 1 Team GC Racing; 2 Team Thompson Motors.
