Herald Fishing: Giant guitar fish catch has Juan Venter humming a tune
Well done to all the anglers on fish of a lifetime catches.
The fishing over the last few weeks has been something out of a dream with anglers adding some news species to their catch record, but the sardine run is coming to an end.
Juan Venter of Izingolweni recently caught (and safely released) a beautiful 49kg giant guitar fish off Uvongo.

With the big seas, heavy swells and terrible weather at the time, he said the only way get the bait out (and to keep it out) was with a drone.
He dropped a slinger head at around 280 metres out with a couta copter revo and, after a short while, hooked into a fighter.
He locked up his drag on his Penn Slammer 10500 and had the sandshark on the rocks within seven minutes.
After a quick photo or two he tagged the shark and safely released it.
South Coast fishing has been a little different to the rest of the KwaZulu-Natal coastline.
This is more than likely due to the large concentration of sardines, with netters still bagging hauls even this week.
The fish have been bullied off the sards by the sharks, so anglers have had to move away from the pockets to be able to get anything out.
There have now been quite a few sharks over the 300kg mark landed and safely released.
Well done to all the anglers on fish of a lifetime catches. There have also been some great edible catches made.
Reports of some very decent prodigal sons caught in among the sharks have come in.
There have been plenty of garrick for the slide anglers as well, with all the major points and beaches producing fish.
Anglers that are spinning for garrick have hooked on to these magnificent fish with plugs such as the GT Ice Cream.
There are reports of lots of kob around. It’s best to throw paddle tail, chokka baits or even a shad belly.

The shad are out in full force, with decent catches being made.
Well done to the anglers who releasing their catches for another angler to tussle with someday.
Bronze bream are also on the bite and some huge ones have been landed.
