Durban CC face Cotswold Downs in premier league final
There was some fun and games in league action around the province last Sunday.
DURBAN Country Club booked their spot in the premier league golf final with a comfortable 8,5-3,5 win over Kloof CC at Kloof recently.
They’ll play Cotswold Downs, who whitewashed Durban CC ‘2’ 12-0, in the final at a venue and date to be confirmed.
There was the potential for it to get exciting after the morning foursomes at Kloof were halved two apiece, but the singles were just about one way traffic.
None of the Durban CC players lost and there were three halves.

Wins were chalked up by Clive Lazarus, James Buzzard, Sean Fenger, Murray Gilson and Clayton Mansfield, who beat his good friend Malcom Mitchell 5/3.
Those who halved their matches were Keith Forde, and the Broomhead brothers Jono and Jason.
Mount Edgecombe CC beat Maritzburg GC 11,5-0,5 with only Richard Nel’s half with David Brown avoiding a whitewash.
Royal Durban beat Umhlali CC 7-5 to round off a solid season.
BLUE LOG: Durban CC 7 (72); Mount Edgecombe CC 7 (68); Maritzburg GC 3 (30,5); Kloof 2 (42); Toti 1 (27,5).
RED LOG: Cotswold 5 (51,5); Royal 4,5 (38); Umhlali 1,5 (32); DCC ‘2’ 1 (18,5).
* In the A league, Victoria CC beat Southern KZN 7,5-4,5 in Pietermaritzburg.
They avenged their away loss from earlier in the season, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Southerns topping the log.
Victoria CC, captained by Chris Cordier, have a team with a lot of potential, with the bulk of their players in their 20s.
Some of them, like Jared Mitchell, Morné van Vuuren, Dean Mullis and new-found dendrologist Reece van Niekerk, can crush the ball a country mile. Not always straight, admittedly, but the raw power is there.
Throw in the ‘senior pro’ Kalvin Parsons (at the ripe old age of 38) and talented juniors Nikhil Gopal and Sean Paxton and there’s no doubt it’s a team that could cause some upsets in premier league.
But that’ll have to wait another year.
In the other pool, Zululand held off Prince’s Grant at Empangeni 6,5-5,5 with the result probably a little closer than some would have predicted.
As a result, Zululand top their log and play Southern KZN in the final on a date to be confirmed.
* The Renasa Insurance Champion of Champions will take place at Kloof Country Club on September 8 and 9.
The event has been running for 46 years and includes past champions like Tim Clark, Derek James and David Suddards, to name a few.
Strokeplay and matchplay champions from the respective clubs in the province are invited to play.
Defending champion is Sebastian Terblanche of Royal Durban Golf Club.
