Track Torque: Round the houses again

Goodwood is a magnificent estate in East Sussex owned by Lord March and is situated near Chichester.

This coming weekend’s Formula 1 race in Singapore is similar to Monaco as they race through the city, but in the dark with the lights blazing.

The track should suit Ferrari more than Mercedes, so it is time for Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen to get their own back after being beaten last time around on their home track.

Lewis Hamilton is very proud of what he achieved at Monza and will be doing his utmost to keep his Silver Arrows in front.

Likewise, Valtteri Bottas will also be trying very hard in his Merc to do his duty.

I expect both Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo to be a lot quicker in their Red Bulls at this circuit as it will suit them.

I attended the Goodwood Revival last weekend.

Goodwood is a magnificent estate in East Sussex owned by Lord March and is situated near Chichester.

It hosts two events, The Goodwood festival of speed held in June and the Goodwood revival held in September, which revives the spirit of old racing cars of all ages from years gone by, in particular the ’30s, ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

For example: the famous ERA (English racing automobile) features at least 10 cars of all types – A, B, C, D and E type.

I spent a lot of time looking through the ERAs in detail and marvelled at the engineering which made them such a good racing car.

All marques were well represented from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati, Connaught and Cooper, Lotus, Lola, Brabham and some lesser known marques, all painstakingly restored to their former glory.

The same goes for the saloon and sports cars from Jaguars, XK, MK 2 and E types, they are all there.

Austin A30 and A35s have a race of their own and there were about 20 of them present, all in a very high state of tune.

The atmosphere was fantastic, people were in period dress and it really took one back to the good old days of some wonderful motor racing.

I talked my head off, walked my feet off and had a wonderful time with this fantastic machinery in what is my sixth Goodwood event.
