Par three power makes difference at Southbroom Golf Club

The greens are in magnificent condition.

Accuracy off the tee on the par threes was vital in the Southbroom Golf Club open day last Friday, as three scores needed to count.

In the end, Robert Mavundla, Wonderboy Mavundla, Thabiso Puwane and a ‘ghost’ won on 96 points, counting out Gavin Sole, Geoff Skelton, and Matthew brothers, Derrik and Bruce.

In third place on 93 points were Roger and Heleen Hissey, Gary and Lesley Godley, on a countout from Jill Webster, Jean Corfe, Gerald and Sandy FitzGerald.

The women’s competition the previous Wednesday was rained out, but the men soldiered on, with Geoff Skelton and Paul Lawson winning on 45 points.

Runners-up on 43 points were Bob Carmichael and Brian Hoggart, as well as Roger Hissey and Roy Deakins.

Last Saturday’s weather was hot and sunny, with the women playing the Mary Thomson Memorial Goblet.

Winner was Heather Anderson on 36 points.

The men’s betterball Stableford was won on 42 points by Gerald FitzGerald and Jim Cook.

Tied for second on 41 points were John Neaves and Don Osbourn, as well as Terry Sheppard and Alan Woods.

One point adrift were Tony Westoby and Malcolm Greenland.
