Herald Fishing: Bass anglers prepare for Paddock compo

Fresh water fishing has been more productive this week.

Bass anglers are still having a lot of fun and reports of some huge bass caught over the weekend.

The trout are also feeding well at the moment with anglers reporting some spectacular fish over the past few weeks.

For the freshwater anglers, the popular annual Paddock Fishing Competition is due to take place at 30 fully stocked dams from March 29 to 31.

The briefing will be at the Paddock Farmers’ Club on Friday, March 29 at 7pm. For more information contact 083-2935265.

With the weather being up and down over the past week the fishing has been slow.

It seems to be the perfect time to take a step back from the fishing to get your tackle and traces back up to scratch.

Make sure your traces are neatly packed and that the rusted versions are thrown away. Retie all your leaders.

Fix the electrics on your boats trailer that you have been meaning to do since last season. Give your rods and reels a good clean.

Go through your tackle box and first aid kit and make sure you have everything that you may need.

The offshore fishing has been good over the last week with tuna and couta making up the majority of the catches.

Reports are in of some absolute bomber bronze bream over the last week.

Anglers fishing on the Sandspit in Port Shepstone has been landing some decent size snapper salmon.

Tight lines and screaming reels.
