Herald Fishing: Offshore fishing has been ‘wild’

The annual Paddock Fishing Compo is coming up soon, from March 29 to 31.

Fishing over the past week has been up and down for all facets.

The edible fishing has begun to pick up and there have been some very nice pompano and stumpnose caught by the anglers targeting them.

The offshore fishing in the province has been wild for the last few weeks. There have been some splendid catches from all vessels, be it a jetski, fishing kayak or a ski boat.

Reports of kob, mussel cracker, stumpnose, pompano and bronze bream have come in over the past week.

The baits of choice have been crabs, pink prawn and chokka. so if you are making an edible trip down south, make sure you have enough of each of the three groups of these baits.

Remember that you require a licence to collect anything from the sea or beach so make sure you have the appropriate paperwork before you go about using any natural bait.

For the inedible anglers there are a lot of hound sharks being caught of deep points.

A couple grey sharks have been landed and released safely at Orange Rocks in Uvongo.

A reminder that the annual Paddock Fishing Compo which is scheduled for March 29 to 31.

Over R150 000 worth of prizes is on offer. There will be numerous lucky draws including a main cash prize of R4000 and two other prizes worth R1000 cash each.

Tickets cost R80 and every ticket is an automatic entry into the lukcy draw.
