It’s not an easy task sitting up there for more than three hours. Spectators were treated to some nail-biting moments in both matches.
It was great to have Tony and Lyn van Tichelen, Stuart Lyall (and Raffles), Reel Fincham, Liesl Smith and Tap Kruger (the last three recovering from illness and injury) and all the others glued to their seats for so long.
The men’s doubles back draw was won by the ‘golden oldies’, Mervyn Tarboton and Keith Gatley who defeated the youngsters, Gerald Bunge and Helgard du Preez in a hard-fought three-setter as well.
Julia Christiansen is running a junior tournament on Friday and Saturday, starting at 7.30am both days.
The last of the championship matches will be played this Saturday from 1pm onwards, starting with the men’s and women’s doubles, followed by the mixed doubles main draw and back draw finals as well as the men’s singles back draw final.
Some of these matches may be played during the week because of the light factor so please check the tennis Whats App for any changes. Prize-giving will take place after the matches have been completed.
