AND there it was ‘gone’ – this year’s Blue Coats Tournament at Scottburgh Bowling Club.
There was considerable activity at the club this last week as the annual Harry Bell Tournament (The Blue Coats) was being played.

The first four days the weather was fantastic and all players enjoyed ideal conditions for play. The standard of bowls was truly amazing and a credit to all those taking part.
However, this final day brought the rain, and although much needed for the gardens and greens, it caused a major upset, as first the length of the last games were reduced in number of ends, and then the final game was cancelled.

The organisers then decided that the trophy could not be awarded this year but that the prize winnings could be split with the team with the highest points declared the winners, and the remaining three prizes should be added together and equally divided among the other top three contestants.
Prizes were also awarded for the top teams in the other respective divisions and the draw was made for the various raffles that were part of the competition.
This year’s winner was Eddie Fann and the team from the Port Shepstone Country Club.
Eddie was not only a sponsor of prizes but also took away a number of prizes on offer, including the prize of a new set of bowls.

The prizes were awarded at the cocktail party on Thursday afternoon and everyone was leaving early to go and get out of the wet clothes.
Next year’s tournament was discussed and we hope you enjoyed the Scottburgh hospitality and hope to see you again same time next year. ‘Hamba Kahle’.
There were no monthly competitions played this last week at SBC.
