What happens in Kokstad, stays in Kokstad!

SEZELA BOWLING CLUB

SEVENTY-two bowlers entered the monthly mixed trip’s competition which was won by local team Corrie and Cassie van Aswegen with Jenny Wadeley scoring 4+19.

One shot behind them were runners-up Kevin and Sandy O’Donoghue and Tony Hoggins. Winners of the second session on 2+11 were Peter Woolcock, Irene Hutton and Jeanie Shannon.

The Doghouse Craft Café, Scottfin Insurance Brokers and Warwick Financial Maturity kindly sponsored the prizes for which we are most grateful. Thanks to Gay Symons, Thelma Montague, Irene Hutton, Peter Woolcock and Cassie van Aswegen for providing the tea time snacks and to Steve Stead who gave up family time to do his bar duty.

Two teams travelled to Kokstad last weekend Jerry Davey, Dave Gibson, Corrie van Zyl and Mally Swanby making up one side, the other being Dave Geils, Rod Black, Phil Carter and Peter Williamson, the latter a most welcome entry from Umkomaas Bowling Club.

Kokstad Bowling Club host this annual ‘Men’s Fours Competition’ and this year’s 1st prize is a sheep each; 2nd half a sheep and 3rd quarter sheep each. Much to bleat about with session prizes also there for the taking. Rod Black is hoping it is live sheep as his lawnmower has broken down. More details in next week’s issue, however the team’s motto ‘What happens in Kokstad stays in Kokstad’ will apply.

Greenkeeper, Ian Adam, will close one green early October for annual maintenance which will restrict competition entries to a maximum of 14 teams so all bowlers who support these events are to liaise with the competition organisers to plan accordingly.

Sezela will host the ‘Triangular Challenge’, defending their title won last year, against Umtentweni and Hibberdene bowling clubs on 6th October. Although competitive with winners taking a trophy home, this event is played in a friendly spirit and is followed by a braai, win or lose it is always a much looked forward to event on our calendar. This year’s prize giving and Xmas party will once again be at Umdoni Golf Club on 5th December, members please diarise.

Not been seen at the club in recent weeks for various valid reasons Mickey and Helen Morrison, Roy Jack, June MacNicol, Colin McLeod, Liz Dredge, Alister Ferguson and Jean Munro. You are all assured your fellow bowlers miss you and would enjoy a visit.
