Boomerang golf for Scottburgh bravehearts

By the 18th hole they were hitting boomerangs – they nearly came back.

You could say it was a little breezy last Wednesday as golfers teed it up for a betterball Stableford at Scottburgh Golf Club.

By the 18th hole they were hitting boomerangs – they nearly came back.

Beating the wind and the rest of the field were Kevin Ramkisson and Nikesh Savnarian with 40 points.

Following closely behind were John Mills and Graham Brown with 38, scores that are usually good enough for individual games.

Dean Jooste and Kevin Ram both nailed 2-clubs and the hidden holes are still hiding away.

Vice-captain Coenie du Bruyn is taking over for a while as Bob Hall is in the Kruger Park and he presented himself and Russel Lawson with the Stone.

There’s a change to this Friday’s 9-hole chicken run as it’s just R50 all-comers and R100 if you take a buggy.

This week Hilton McAuliffe took home a chicken for Delores with his 20 point total.

It was monthly medal time again and thanks to Park Rynie Halfway Toyota for the men’s and ladies’ prizes.

Hayley Gilliver of the ‘Golfing Gillivers’ took first place with a nett 71 followed by Esme Hadley in second with 76.

Debbie du Toit, playing for the first time after a long layoff, was third with 78, not a bad return.

Mandy Jones picked up the prize for her 29 putts.

In the men’s section Jason Gilliver, back down for a breather from the IGT tour, shot a 70 to win the A division best gross, with Barry Kisten taking the nett on 69.

Andrew Sharp had the best gross in the B division with his 82 and Ian Walker took the nett with 70.

The C division is played as Individual Stableford and Tony Power had 38 points to win the division followed closely by Coenie du Bruyn on 34.

Tony’s 38 was scored off a 66 nett and he is the September medallist.

There was a host of 2-clubs – Barry Kisten, Doc Mahabeer, Wayne Simpson, Andrew Sharp and Russel Freeman all picked up vouchers.

Vice-captain Coenie has a fondness for the Stone as once again he along with Gary Jones, Herman Grotious and Anton Visage all took turns at polishing it.

The P&G Construction day is coming up this Saturday (12th) and on the 19th the new proprietors of the golf shop and restaurant are sponsoring the day.

Flyer’s footnote: You go out and play your game. Sometimes it comes out as a 68 and other times 86. That’s not fatalism, it’s golf.
