Eagles ‘rain’ during surprise spring deluge
A little later, after the first tee off times, the heavens opened and down came the rain.
The first day of September is traditionally the first day of spring, a day that signals the approach of summer.
September 1 was also the date for the monthly Village Eagles Golf Day and good spring weather was expected.
Unfortunately, the good spring weather was not to be and the Eagles got their wings well and truly wet.

Rain during the night seemed to let up in the morning and the full field of 68 golfers pitched up to play.
A little later, after the first tee off times, the heavens opened and down came the rain.
Golfers are an optimistic bunch but continual scowling at the sky just had no effect and Selborne Park Golf Club simply became the biggest water hole in the land.
All of that said, the rain is welcome and all of us hope and pray that more of it falls to fill dams, water gardens and turn golf courses green again.
It would be selfish of us to moan about the rain that fell on that day when we all know how badly we need it.
Although things are getting easier we are still in stage 2 of the lockdown and thanks need to go to Selborne Golf Course for accommodating our special needs in these strange times.
The golf course is looking great and the Eagles cannot wait to visit Selborne again and play in the sunshine.
Thanks also go to our sponsors Claribel, Food Lover’s Market, Pitstop, Bell and Anchor, The Driving Range and Umdoni Restaurant.
Of the seventeen fourballs that entered, 10 of them finished, albeit as drowned rats.
Winners of the swimming gala were Frank Shaw, Neville Lloyd, Pearl Lloyd and Tony Marrot. Neville and Pearl also took the Best Male and Best Lady trophies home.
Unfortunately Dennis Middelmis, Alistair Ferguson, and Neville Tillman forgot their water wings and had there been a prize giving they would have been the proud owners of the Stone Trophy.
We look forward to visiting Scottburgh Golf Course next month.
