Time flies for fun-loving Eagles

It seems like yesterday that the Village Eagles Golf Society took the first swing of the year and here they are looking forward to and organising games for next year already.

Time flies when you are having fun, so they say. Well, time definitely flies when you are swinging a golf club.

It seems like yesterday that the Village Eagles Golf Society took the first swing of the year and here they are looking forward to and organising games for next year already.

A couple of those games will definitely be played at Scottburgh, like the most recent one last week.

Credit has to go to those people dedicating their time and energy to keeping the course in such good condition that playing it is a pleasure.

Best man and lady on the day were Ben Enslin and Sue Boucher.

Thanks to all sponsors for making the day a success.

Best male golfer went to Ben Enslin on a respectable 39 points with best lady golfer Sue Boucher shooting 40 points.

Winning on the day were Ben Enslin, Mike Pearson, Tony Marot and Noel Jessop.

Surprisingly, the coveted Stone Trophy went to Steve Padgett, Gus Crous, Clive Melville and Fred van Prooijen.

I say surprisingly as Gus is the organiser, Steve helped with results and Clive is the handicapper.

Bryony Rodgers finds a good lie.

Have you guys learnt nothing from some of our politicians?

“Can I join the Village Eagles Golf Society and do I need a handicap?” are questions the Bald Eagle has been asked.

Well, those are easy questions to answer.

Firstly, membership of The Eagles is restricted to promising juniors who either reside at or are on the waiting list (wish to reside) of either the Umdoni or Widenham Retirement Villages, also known as the Old Youth Hostel and the New Youth Hostel respectively.

The Eagles meet once a month and spend the rest of the time working out how to get discounts from unsuspecting retailers.

Gus Crous ponders his difficult lie. And you thought you had problems with ants at home.

Secondly, no you do not need to have a handicap.

Apart from one of our members, who got injured playing rugby and is presently wearing a knee guard, all of us get around with no aid except our medical aid.

Chronic medication is not necessary but sunscreen is recommended. SPF 60 is a sun protection factor not an age limit.
