Sabiha and Rory bring home the glory for Umkomaas

They’re both great examples that the effort you put in during practice pays off in competition, as they outplayed their counterparts in their respective tournaments.

Umkomaas Golf Club members couldn’t be prouder of star golfers Sabiha Bacaus and Rory Bernadis, who both took home the silverware recently.

They’re both great examples that the effort you put in during practice pays off in competition, as they outplayed their counterparts in their respective tournaments.

Rory won the U12 SA Kids event at Umhlali CC and his gross score was the best of the day, across all age divisions.

This follows his win a few weeks ago and it seems that Umkomaas may well have another future champion in its ranks.

Sabiha Bacaus wins the silver division at the Midlands Open.

Sabiha’s day got off to a rocky start at the Midlands Champs, played at Maritzburg Golf Club, when she took a nine on the par 4, 8th hole.

But the 49 on the front nine was nearly obliterated by two over par 38 back nine, leaving her just three off the pace after the first round.

Her excellent golf kicked into high gear in the second round with a stunning 79 gross, leaving her four shots clear at the top of the silver division leaderboard.

Umkomaas is extremely grateful for the continued support from Halfway Malanda which sponsored new signage at the club entrance, replacing the one it originally sponsored many moons ago.

Thanks to Suresh Sewbaran and his team for their support, including for our Monthly Mug competitions.

The Waltzing Alliance competition was enjoyed by all but the husband-wife team of Willie and Sue Boucher and Russel and Evija McKelvey danced off with first prize on a good score of 90 points.

Next best, on 81 points, were Dave Kemp, Raj Rampathy, and visitors Selwyn and Annabelle Hesom.

At the recent annual general meeting  the 2020/21 committee was elected with current captain Graham Coxell, and vice-captain Bruce Sutcliffe being re-elected to serve a second term, testament to the fine work they’ve done in what has been a very strange year.

In his chairman’s report, Devlyn Fraser acknowledged the many members who contributed so generously during the lockdown period.
