So close for Southbroom and Margate Interclub golfers, but no cigar

In the final Riverside was just too strong and emerged worthy winners, 3-0.

Southbroom Golf Club’s Senior Frogs came the closest to glory of the local teams in the KwaZulu-Natal Interclub tournament held last weekend.

Three courses hosted the 300+ players that came from all corners of the province to play, namely Margate, Port Shepstone and San Lameer country clubs.

There were two days of qualifying, followed by knockouts at Margate on the Sunday.

Captained by Don Osbourn, the team comprising Michael Lig and Brian Jolliffe defeated southern neighbours Port Edward in the semi-finals, with Jolliffe playing golf similar to the quality produced in the A division.

Don Osbourn of Southbroom Golf Club chips it out of the trees.

Lig had a handy lead at one stage but eventually had to guts it out on the 17th, closing his game out on the long par four, much to the relief of his skipper who experienced some tree trouble late in his round.

In the final Riverside was just too strong and emerged worthy winners, 3-0.

Ntozakhe managed to hang on for a win on the final hole against Gustav du Randt to reduce the scoreline to 2-1.

A division winners were Durban CC over Prince’s Grant. Alliance – Amanzimtoti.

Drak Gardens beat Umdoni Park in the B division final. Alliance – Royal Durban.
