Fun run promotes healthy lifestyle

The event was a huge success despite challenges and dull weather conditions.

A health and fitness lifestyle fun run/walk was held at the Uvongo fishing pier in Lilliecrona Boulevard recently.

“The aim was to promote a healthy lifestyle in our community and to raise funds for an endurance academy, Endurocad, based in Cape Town.

“The academy works with athletes throughout South Africa to support, develop and inspire the youth, women and others to pursue sports professionally and to establish themselves as valuable brands in their own right,” said organiser, Vukile Shabane.

The event was a huge success despite challenges and dull weather conditions.

“We had a turnout of about 30 runners, and raised R3 008 for Endurocad through a series of fundraising initiatives, including this fun run/walk.

“We thank Asanda Marais of Bizana Caltex for the sponsorship, which ensured the successful and smooth hosting of the event,” said Vukile.

“This has stirred a desire to create a local sports academy to develop and groom local athletes who will perform on the highest sporting stage as we believe our community has massive talent and potential,” he said.

Prime examples are the athletes that came first in the 5km and 10km run, Peter Greyson and Sanele Wayise who clocked up times of 16:35 and 34:30 respectively.

A follow-up fun run will be held in early December to scout for more talent and excellence on the South Coast.
