From the Beach: ‘Tyne’ to shine for Scottburgh Nipper
The KZN October Nipper Carnival took place at Marine Beach in Durban recently, with Tyne van Achterbergh winning two events.
Scottburgh beach is open at last.
After nearly seven months of lockdown, it was wonderful to see the red and yellow flags flapping in the wind, demarcating the bathing area.
Beach facilities and businesses have reopened and the surrounding areas are once again starting to look inviting.
Families made their way to the beach in their numbers over the weekend, while according to reports, the recent holiday week was encouragingly busy.
Scottburgh Nippers have resumed their weekly training sessions on Sunday mornings at 8.30am, and fitness training at the beach on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Anyone wishing to enroll their son or daughter in the Nipper programme can speak to Nipper officer Keith Jones at the Sunday morning beach training.
In addition to the five professional lifeguards on the beach, Scottburgh Surf Lifesaving Club (SSLSC) has four duty squads which assist in ensuring the safety of bathers on Sundays, public holidays and during holiday season.
Lifeguards are commended for their invaluable contribution.
The duty roster started on Sunday October 25, with A Squad on duty, led by Matthew Rorke.
In more news from SSLC, Gordon Gardner was re-elected as chairman of the club at the recent AGM, while Morgane Petit will continue as secretary and Bruce Roberts as treasurer.
Fishermen have been scarce as shad season is closed until December 1.
Whales and large pods of dolphins are still in abundance and have been entertaining beachgoers by breaching and surfing swells, sometimes fairly close to shore.
