Muddy good times at sani2c

The young Insect Science team of Brendan van Eeden and Keagan Bontekoning were third overall with 06:25:24.

The KAP sani2c concluded at the Scottburgh Golf Club last Saturday, with riders covered in mud as they crossed the finish line.

DSV Pro Cycling’s Arno du Toit and Gert Heyns won the third and final stage of the race, securing the overall crown in a time of 06:10:38, after a strong performance over the two days of racing through wet and muddy conditions.

“After the first day we were confident that we were the strongest here, so we just set a good pace on the climbs to make sure that no one got away,” said Gert.

“In the end it was quite muddy, especially dropping down into the last valley, and a few of the guys fell off and rejoined again. Luckily our bikes didn’t have any problems.”

The second stage was declared a ‘neutral day’ after poor and dangerous weather resulted in the race being rerouted, and the last stage saw riders cover 86km from Jolivet farm to Scottburgh.

The Dormakaba team of Amy McDougall and Robyn de Groot won the women’s race in an overall time of 07:03:10, after a clean sweep of stage wins.

PYGA Euro Steel’s Matthys Beukes and Phil Buys were second over the line today and came second overall with a time of 06:19:39.

The young Insect Science team of Brendan van Eeden and Keagan Bontekoning were third overall with 06:25:24.

The second women’s team across the line was Galileo Risk Infiniti, Sarah Hill and Theresa Ralph, taking second overall in a time of 07:15:41.

Absolute Demacon’s Kim le Court and Frances Janse van Rensburg were third in the stage, which secures them third place overall in a time of 07:35:36.

Although the event was scaled down to comply with Covid-19 regulations, it was still fairly well attended and had many spectators.
