‘Magic Malan’ lands heaviest fish at inter-club finals

Dean Angrove and Schalk Nichols were among some of the award recipients.

The Margate Construction BBS Freshwater Angling Club in Southport held its annual inter-club finals last Saturday.

Eight anglers made it to the finals after a few weekends of hard-fought fishing to land the big one, trying to qualify.

Schalk Nichols with last minute competitor, Hugo Botha, who won the heaviest bag of the day.

Hugo ‘Black Book’ Botha snuck in the backdoor after a fellow competitor withdrew last week, and ended up winning the heaviest bag of the day with a total of 10,345kg.

Johan ‘Tilapia King’ Mahoney ended second with a bag weight of 8.755kg.

Fanus ‘Magic Man’ Malan won the heaviest fish of the day with a total of 3.065kg.

Floating trophies were sponsored by Aqua-Tec Plumbing for the finals and handed out in the following categories:
