‘Sport has power to change world’

The winner of the 10km run was Peter Greyson in a time of 38:31 and runner-up was Sanele Wayise in 43:05.

Some 25 athletes participated in a fun run/walk hosted by Improve Performance Academy at the TB Molefe Stadium in Gamalakhe recently.

“The objective of the event was achieved in identifying and recognising that talent for international sporting exposure and excellence in the foreseeable future,” said organiser Vukile Shabane.

The winner of the 10km run was Peter Greyson in a time of 38:31 and runner-up was Sanele Wayise in 43:05.

Both are the winners of a previous event held in Uvongo.

In the 5km run, Mateu Nhlumayo was the winner in a time of 24:30 and Cyril Nondaba was the runner-up in 25:20.

In the women’s 5km run, Nolwazi Mqulwa was the winner in a time of 36:46 and Londiwe Cele was the runner-up in 41:10.

“We really believe we can do more when we work together as a community. Sport has the power to change the world,” said Vukile.

He thanked the organising committee, associates and sponsors Ubuhle BeAfrica, Harbourview Spar, The Hook the South Coast Striders and the athletes for making the event a success.
