He’s never entered a serious fishing competition, nor is he part of a club, but he is an experienced fisherman nonetheless.

Some of his highlights include catching a 240kg bronze whaler shark, and for rarity, a 5.8kg Cape knifejaw.

In freshwater fishing, Ian Logie from Anerley caught a 6kg large scaled carp, also known as a mirror carp, at Lake Eland.

He said that although it wasn’t a career best by any means, that it was his biggest catch at the lake.

“They can grow pretty big and it’s recommended they be released,” he said.

Kurt Bunge of Oribi Gorge speared his first barracuda, off Oslo Beach. It weighed in at 11kg.
