Betterball League turns out to be a family affair
With an excellent nett 66, Dave Kemp received the first monthly mug for 2021, winning the B Division on 40 points.
It’s unusual weather for this time of year as most coastal golfers associate wind with August, but the past few Saturdays have been blustery, creating additional challenges for competitors at Umkomaas Golf Club.
The wind, and its direction, play a significant part in the difficulty of many of the holes at Umkomaas Golf Club and we’ve experienced just about all types of windy conditions recently.
Of course, part of the charm of Umkomaas is the fact that the course plays so differently depending on the wind, enabling those of us who enjoy the course weekly, to remain engaged and challenged.
Father-daughter combination Devlyn Fraser and Natalie Singer won the third installment of the Betterball League with 45 points, and grandfather Tom and grandson Tash Naicker finished a close second on 44 points.
Third place was won, on a count-out by Barrie Taylor and Nelson Moonsamy, with Christopher Pillay and Francois Rossouw coming fourth, also with 42 points.
Wednesday winner was Robbie Matthias on 38 points, followed by Gregg Anderson and Sue Boucher on 37 points, and John Webster on 36 points.
With an excellent nett 66, Dave Kemp received the first monthly mug for 2021, winning the B Division on 40 points.
A division was won by Russell Cumming on 34 points, C Division by Willie Boucher on 35 points and D Division by Peter Toward on 39 points.
The ladies medal glass was won by Sue Boucher for a nett 72.
Junior member Russell Heine continues to play good golf and won the first competition, played at Selborne Park, in the Duckhook Golfers Durban Series for 2021.
His two-under par earned him first place on 38 points, and he also scooped up the longest drive and nearest the pin.
