Surfers ‘stoked’ with equipment donation
Dumisani has been running the club since 2006 and currently has 23 members, with the oldest teenager 17 years-old.

A group of Durban surfers, which regularly hits the waves at Umzumbe beach, has brought some ‘stoke’ to Umzumbe Surf Riders‘ Club.
Roger Fitzsimon related how he has surfed Umzumbe since he was a child – close on 50 years now.
He has taken his sons Daniel and Kian, and their cousin Adam, to surf some of the same spots he did when he was a boy.
He was impressed with the work and passion he saw among the surfers who belong to the Umzumbe Surf Riders’ Club, a number of whom also work as lifesavers at the beach.
Seeing the need for equipment, he got together with some like-minded surfing friends and decided to give back during the recent festive period by donating old surfboards and wet suits.
The three boys were part of the handover, a special occasion and one which will long be remembered.
Club leader Dumisani Radebe thanked the surfers for their kindness.
He said the donations would go a long way to encouraging young boys to take up the sport and for others to keep at it.
Dumisani has been running the club since 2006 and currently has 23 members, with the oldest teenager 17 years-old.
“I’m hoping to encourage younger surfers to join this year, but due to lockdown it has been difficult,” said Dumisani.
Pro surfer Simo Mkhize is the club captain and actively involved.
If anyone has any old surfing equipment gathering dust in the garage, consider donating it to this worthy cause.
