Hayley holes out on Scottburgh’s 2nd

There's been no let up in the humidity of late but at least we're having some rain to keep the course in good condition.

Hayley Gilliver has only been playing for about three years and has already achieved her first hole-in-one.

This happened at Scottburgh Golf Club’s 2nd hole recently, where she used a driver to hit the perfect fluke.

“It was very unexpected,” she said.

Her husband Pete has had one, his coming at Selborne Park, but son Jason, one of the top golfers in the province at the moment, has yet to have his own ace.

“Jason goes for the flag, I think that’s more difficult. It’s easier to hit and hope.”

The greens at Scottburgh Golf Club were verticut last week with our new machine and will continue to be cut during the growing season.

Last Wednesday’s betterball was awash with the usual faces, Tony Power and Hans Beuthe hitting the right shots at the right time to score 43 points.

Mick Marriot must have been getting some putting practice in whilst recuperating at home as he assisted Geoff Thommasen to score 41 for second place.

Wayne Simpson had the only 2-club with Anton Visage and Tony Kennedy picking up the tab for the Stone’s upkeep.

It was mix and match day on Saturday as both the men and ladies played a combined Stableford with mystery partners.

For the ladies, Hayley Gilliver and Lauren Davey combined to score 66 points to win by three from Linda Hall and Mandy Jones on 63.

Tony Power continued his run of form by scoring 41 individual points and picked up Doc Mahabeer with 34 to total 75 to win again.

Ian Walker, also scoring 41 individual points, drew Geoff Thommasen with 28 for second spot with 69.

John Mills knocked it closest to the pin on the 10th and rolled in the birdie putt along with Hilton McAuliffe for the only 2-clubs of the day.

Gareth Walker and Tony Moore will be putting aside R10 for whenever the bar is opened.

I believe my little ditty from last week was posted to the powers that be in Parliament so let’s hold thumbs.

The next two competitions remain a mystery at he time of writing, so get down to the club and book your time and partner.

Flyer’s footnote: The follow through – the part of the swing that takes part after the ball has been hit but before the club has been thrown.
