Casper shows up at the friendly club
Ken Koster played very well and scored 12 points across the four designed holes to win the jackpot and a lone 2-club from Francois Rossouw saw him take the money.
Umkomaas Golf Club is known for its hospitality and camaraderie and the boost to membership from the new residents at Widenham Retirement Village has done wonders to increase our golfing community and reinforce our moniker as #thefriendliestclub.
And the time available to the retirees to hone their golfing skills seems to be paying off as we regularly see ‘villagers’ in the prizes.
Whilst we are all missing the 19th hole, it is encouraging to hear that the scary spike in Covid-19 infections the South Coast experienced over the festive season is abating, and our combined efforts to maintain Level 3 restrictions are paying off.
Best of all, we can all continue to enjoy a round of golf in the fresh air and sunshine.
It was a case of the friendly ghost during the fourball Alliance last Wednesday, contested in windy conditions.
The low alliance scores posted proved that things were tough for most.
The winners, on just 88 points, were Ken Koster, Pete Vermaak, Rex Parsons, and B Stephens.
Originally a three-ball, Devlyn Fraser, Natalie Singer and Chris Coxell managed to put together 75 points, but a friendly ‘ghost’ (in the form of Francois Rossouw) who had a great day on the course, helped to boost their score to 86 points, enough to take second place.

Brothers Graham and Chris Coxell, dovetailed perfectly to score +8, taking first place in Saturday’s Bonus Bogey.
A slew of +7s were counted out for second, namely Jacques Kirstein and Harold Horsley, third John Webster and Russel McKelvey and fourth Jacques Hulley and Riek Jansen van Rensburg.
We are sure many of these pairs could think of a few places were a missed putt or wayward drive could’ve made all the difference.
Sabiha Hulley took the jackpot, scoring 11 points on the designated four holes, and 2-club money was shared between Jacques Hulley and Mike Dennison.
