Volleyball stalwart calls it a day

Johnny has served the education sector for 33 years and is one of the longest serving volleyball officials, with 23 years on the executive committee alone.

Johnny Rajoo has announced his retirement from the Port Shepstone Volleyball Association.

His contribution has been legendary, not only in volleyball circles, but in education too, and the community in general.

Johnny has served the education sector for 33 years and is one of the longest serving volleyball officials, with 23 years on the executive committee alone.

All of this he has done with passion, dedication and hard-work.

Johnny has always made himself available to assist anyone, young or old.

He’s always been able to spot talent and bring it out, helping people to realise their gifts.

Johnny was first appointed at Marburg Secondary school as an educator with specialisation in Social Sciences (Geography).

Later, he was appointed as the youngest deputy principal at Marburg Secondary and then went on to become Campus Manager at Esayidi TVET College in 2006.

He served Enyenyezi for 14 years.

Johnny is a former executive official and honorary member of the Port Shepstone Volleyball Association which was founded in 1989.

He also served as an executive member for the PSVA Schools committee, organising numerous tournaments for primary and secondary schools in the Ugu district.

Although officially retired, Johnny will still be actively involved in numerous community-based organisations, such as the Port Shepstone Andhra Sabha, Bread of Heaven Feeding Programme, Hope Park Project, Schools Volleyball Committee, Marsec Cisco ICT Academy and other local community projects in his ward.

He will not be lost to education as he is currently the Centre Manager for North West University’s Unit for Open Distance Learning.

Johnny has been recently head-hunted to administer the Stadio’s Embury Institute for Higher Education (Port Shepstone Centre) newly established education distance learning programme.

He also plans to visit and spend more time with his large Canadian family once the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

The PSVA congratulated Johnny on his sterling career and contributing, wishes him all the best in his retirement and future endeavours.
